Bark & Gold Photography’s Blue Sky Tag Challenge

I’ve been blogging away like crazy these past few weeks, scheduling my recent calendar contest session features and writing my Pet Photography 52 Weeks Project posts, so when Kim Hollis with BARKography invited interested pet photographers to participate in the Blue Sky Tag Challenge, I was intrigued. Sometimes it’s fun to break away from the norm and try something new!

What exactly is the Blue Sky Tag Challenge?  Kim explained it to me as a type of blogging chain where the nominating blogger sends a group of 11 questions to 11 different small business owners, entrepreneurs, or bloggers. The nominated people answer those questions then create their own group of 11 questions to ask their 11 selected participants. And the fun continues as each participant continues to invite more people. Cool, right?

Kim asked me the following 11 questions. My questions are at the end. While I was able to secure just three fellow participants, I thought I’d still share as a chance to get to know me a little better. (Also, if you have a few minutes, go back and read Kim’s Blue Sky Tag Challenge post.)

Do you have a dog(s)? Include their names please.

I certainly do! His name is Hunter, but he has a series of nicknames, including Woof, Hunty, Hunterpotamooski, and HB (short for Hunter Baby or Hunter Bear). Hunter is a Siberian retriever that my husband brought home about three months before we got married. He loves to catch Frisbee, hog the bed, and visit Grandma’s house where he gets to eat homemade breakfasts. (Yes, my dad actually cooks him breakfast…and lunch…and dinner!)

What was the last movie you saw in a theater?

I can’t remember. (Yes, it’s been that long!) I’m not much of a theater person. I tend to fall asleep if I get bored with a movie, so I prefer to watch at home.

What foods do you dislike?

I have to eat gluten-free, so anything with gluten in it is completely out of the question. Aside from that, nothing sour or tart for this girl!

What kind of vehicle do you drive?

During Pittsburgh winters, four-wheel drive is essential. And with Hunter, so is a roomy backseat riding area. I’ve got both with my Rav4…as well as plenty of dog hair throughout it!

If I asked you for book recommendations for summer reading, what would you recommend?

I really like Brené Brown. At the end of last year, I wrapped up “The Gifts of Imperfection: Let Go of Who You Think You’re Supposed to Be and Embrace Who You Are,” which was fantastic! I have several more of her books on my to-read list, including “Rising Strong” and “The Power of Vulnerability: Teachings of Authenticity, Connections and Courage.”

Who is your favorite band/singer or your top five if you’re like me and can’t list just one?

That’s easily Jack Johnson!

Where is your favorite travel destination and what do you love most about it?

My all-time favorite vacation was my honeymoon to the Big Island where we hiked, biked, luau-ed, and explored all 4,028 miles of the island.

What’s your guilty pleasure?

Oakmont Bakery makes the most ridiculously delicious macarons! My favorite flavor:  a toss-up between salted caramel and almond. I have no shame in admitting that I can easily drop $15 for a dozen of these babies!

What is your favorite quote?

It’s from Vincent Van Gogh: “What is done in love is done well.” I love it so much I’ve built the Bark & Gold brand around it.

What’s your biggest accomplishment?

It is impossible for me to choose just one. Many of my biggest accomplishments have happened on the ice. I’m proud to say that I am a six-time United States Figure Skating gold medalist & Canadian ice dance medalist; a certified choreographer with the American Ice Theatre; and a professional coach with a Registered Moves rating and a Level I ranking through the Professional Skaters Association.

What advice would you give your 20-year-old self?

Be brave. I’ve learned that you can have comfort or you can have courage, but you can’t have both. It’s like Dr. Jenn Mann says: “We don’t get anything good in life unless we are brave.”

  1. I LOVED reading your answers. My dogs always have loads of nicknames too. 🙂 I couldn’t tell you the last movie I saw in a theater either. I love going but never do. I drive an SUV too – b/c of my dogs. I will check out your book recommendations (I’m always looking for good books to read) and I’ve never tried a macaron. 😮 Something about the colors they come in bothers me. Thanks again for participating!!
