Pet Photography Project 52, Week 40: Orange You Glad It’s Fall

Orange you glad it’s fall? I am! C’mon, you know I can’t pass up an opportunity for a pun, especially when this week’s Pet Photography Project 52 theme was orange!

Autumn in Pittsburgh has arrived significantly earlier than in past years. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that the beautiful fall foliage hangs around for just  a little longer so that I can squeeze out a few early October sessions while there’s still color. Although the temperatures have been fluctuating between 60-85° over the past week, fall is now definitely in the air–or rather,  on the ground.

I’m not sure how long the leaves will hang on so I took this prompt as an opportunity to experiment with enhancing the season’s vibrant shades of orange, red, and yellow. I want to be sure that I can create the mood and colors I so love about this time of year just in case we end up with more dead brown branches than I’d like. Bark & Gold Photography’s top dog Hunter stepped up to the plate this week and posed patiently among the leaves with a bright orange pumpkin.

Notice I said patiently, not willingly. With typical photographer’s-dog attitude, Hunter, of course, refused to look my way, but I’m on to his stubborn Siberian ways. You see, there’s two things that will always catch his attention–and with a head tilt: any question or any squeaky sound. I did have to manipulate my squeaker a bit to get it to produce a somewhat more unusual and unfamiliar noise that he isn’t quite as used to, but it worked and voilà! Got the shot, little man!

I say it time and time again: I just love October! I am really looking forward to this one as well. Between a model call, a special session for a senior English Labrador, a top-secret project with a local boutique (that I can hopefully share more about in a few weeks), and my first ever pet photos with Santa event at a Pittsburgh pet supply store I’ve got a pretty jam-packed calendar through mid-November…and I’m loving every minute of it! So, tell me: what are you most looking forward to this season?

    1. Hang in there; I’m sure the color is on its way! I hope ours sticks around through the end of the month when I have my last October session.
