5 Reasons to Book a Professional Pet Photographer

I am a firm believer that for pet owners, beautiful photos are truly worth a thousand woofs. After all, it's one of the beliefs I've centered the Bark & Gold philosophy around and it's why I want to encourage you to give a voice to your dog by capturing his extraordinary personality and unique physical traits through photos. I'm not talking about blurry, underexposed iPhone snapshots; I'm talking about detailed, thoughtfully composed professional pet photographs.

While these photos will undoubtedly prove to be worth those thousand woofs, here are five reasons to book a professional pet photographer for your four-legged friend.

1. The puppy stage passes quickly.

At some point, we've all uttered the words that we'll "get around to it eventually." Whether that involves a work project we've been dreading, a vacation we've been postponing, or housework we've been putting off, "eventually" never seems to come. Honestly, I can't stand the word "eventually," particularly when we use it as a timeline for getting photos of our pet's precious puppy period.

Most of us have heard of the popular calculation that one dog year is equivalent to seven human years, but the American Veterinarian Medical Association says that's not entirely accurate. "It varies, but cats and small dogs are generally considered 'senior' at seven years of age. Larger breed dogs tend to have shorter lifespans compared to smaller breeds and are often considered senior when they are five to six years of age. Contrary to popular belief, dogs do not age at a rate of seven human years for each year in dog years."

The majority of puppies grow the most between six to 18 months of age. By that six-month mark, however, your sweet fur baby may very well reach his full size, and before you realize, those innocent, clumsy, playful puppy days are gone forever. You can never get these moments back. Don't let them pass by with "eventually." My Puppy Love Sessions are the perfect way to remember these moments forever!

2. You'll capture memories to cherish forever.

Considering how quickly pets age, the sad reality is that many of us will outlive our four-legged friend. Professional pet photos are one of the best ways to preserve your favorite memories and beloved characteristics of your dog. Make it a point to invest in photos of your best friend every few years so that when your pet does pass, you'll have a beautiful series of furry milestones from when he was strong and healthy to cherish forever.

For pets nearing their end due to illness or aging, professional photos can be especially invaluable. Rainbow Sessions are one way to remember your dog through end-of-life photos that are designed to make saying goodbye a little easier, capture your special bond, and keep you connected to your pet for years to come.

3. Your dog is family.

According to the 2015-2016 National Pet Owners Survey conducted by the American Pet Products Association (APPA), sixty-five percent of U.S. households, or about 79.7 million families, own a pet. Ninety-five percent of these pet owners consider their pets as family members. They buy birthday gifts for their pets, cook special meals for their fur babies, and lovingly share their beds with them.

As an important part of your family, having professional photos of your pet just makes sense. You have them of your spouse, your parents, your children; why should your pet be the exception?

For those without children, your pet is your child. You keep him safe, provide food and shelter, and take care of him when he isn't feeling well...and every day your dog thanks you in the most incredible, selfless, loyal, tail-wagging ways. Doesn't that fabulous furry face deserve a spot in your family photo album or among your wall collage?

4. Professional photos are a true work of art.

A few days ago, I read this great quote from artist Michael Howard that said, "Framing a print acknowledges the power of a frozen moment. Out of all the images taken it says, 'This is worth seeing every day!'"

An experienced professional pet photographer will be able to provide you with more than images you'll want to see every day. Through expertise, training, materials, education, and equipment, your pet photographer will provide you with a true work of art. He or she will take into account everything from lighting and angles to composition and finely tuned post-processing techniques to bring out the beauty of your dog. This is the professional difference and it is worth every penny!

5. Your pet deserves it!

What better way to thank your pet for their unwavering love, loyalty, companionship, comfort, and acceptance than by taking a break from your everyday routine and spending an hour or two together outside, seeing the world through your dog's eyes. Your pet deserves it! Besides, why wouldn't you want gorgeous images of that sweet, slobbery face?
